Dear Community Volunteers,
Please help us! This very snowy winter destroyed the garden beds at the Oak Bluffs School. The raised beds are now damaged and dangerous. The nails are sticking out of the rotten wood. We need help fixing them.
Our school gardens are important because we grow fresh food for school lunches. We get to try new and different foods that we have grown ourselves. It gives all kids from kindergarten all they way through eighth grade fresh food that is healthy for us. It saves the cafeteria ladies shopping time and saves the school money.
Another reason to rebuild the gardens is that second graders love to plant in the garden! We plant fruits and vegetables. Gardening is teaching us how to work together and share. We plant seeds and water the plants. It teaches us responsibility. We get to work outside and get fresh air. Gardening makes us happy!
Please come and help us fix our garden beds at the Oak Bluffs School on Sunday, April 12th from 12:00 - 3:00. The gardens are behind the school. Bring your tools and your friends. We hope you will come.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Berube’s Second Graders
