Dear Parent/s I want to once again offer my apologies for the lateness of the Kindergarten through 4th grade report cards and the lack of a proper explanation of the rubric. As I explained before, we are adopting a new program, Power School, for reporting grades in our elementary school… In the end however, my desire to push forward with the use of Power School ultimately led to confusion and diminished communication.
Changes are necessary if we are going to better support our children. A natural reaction when we make mistakes in the context of necessary change is to slow down and even become reluctant to make change, to retreat so to speak, to the comfort of routine. Our school cannot afford to default to routine. Rest assured, we will continue to push for improvement.
I am thankful for all of the parents that offered their input regarding my lack of timely communication. In response to this issue, I would like to provide an opportunity that will allow for better communication and explanation of our Kindergarten through 4th grade report card.
I invite you to a report card parent night at 6:30PM on February 11, 2014. My hope is that this explanation of the report card will be a mechanism to display each grade level rubric and create a method by which parents will be able to look at the standards and be offered strategies to support our children at home. Representative teachers from each grade level will be present to help facilitate this very important meeting. We look forward to seeing you.
For those of you that are unable to attend, we will send home a rubric with this same information so that you may benefit as well. Thank you and always, please let me know of your questions and concerns.
