I want to update you on our OBS principal search process. I wish to thank our staff and community members that were chosen as representatives to be a part of the application review/interview committee and to all those who volunteered.
The committee was comprised of the following representatives:
Mr. Hart
2 representatives – Grades K-4 staff
2 representatives – Grades 5-8 staff
1 representative – Support Staff
1 representative – School Advisory Council
1 representative – PTO
1 representative – MVYPS Principals
1 representative – OBS School Committee
1 representative – Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head
1 representative – Brazilian Community
1 representative – town leader
Our committee of thirteen reviewed the over 30 applicants for the position. Using the survey feedback that we received from staff and parents, the committee chose to interview nine candidates. Three finalists were chosen from the interviews. After vetting out the three finalists, the committee, in doing its due diligence, decided to name two additional finalists. From the total of five finalists, two will visit our school.
The visits will take place next week, on Monday, 6/8/15 and Tuesday, 6/9/15. This is when you will have the opportunity to meet the finalists, talk with them, and offer written feedback to our Superintendent Elect, Dr. Matt D’Andrea. Matt will make the final decision on our next principal after considering the input that he receives from parents and staff, myself included.
The first candidate, Dr. John Rizzo, will be available this Monday from 2:00PM to 3:00PM in the school library. The second candidate, Ms. Phyllis Dubina will be available this Tuesday from 2:00PM to 3:00PM in the school library. We hope you will be able to take advantage of the opportunity to come and meet the candidates for the next principal of the Oak Bluffs School. Your input is always valued and appreciated. I invite you to contact me with any questions or concerns. Thank you.
