The annual Oak Bluffs School Geography Bee took place on Friday, February 17. All 5th-8th grade students competed in a qualifying round to determine 12 finalists. The competitors in this year's final round were eighth graders Hope Bettencourt, Joey Cywinski, Jacob Gurney, James Dyke, Kate Howell, Grace O'Malley and Ruby Reimann. Lukas Fernandez represented the seventh grade, Sam Gurney, Nora Reimer and CJ Walsh were sixth grade representatives and Ali Dyke was the fifth grade participant. In the bee, once a student answers 2 questions incorrectly they are eliminated until there are 2 students who participate in the championship round. The championship round came down to the two Gurney brothers battling it out for the victory. Jacob answered one question correctly and Sam answered two correctly, ensuring him the win. Sam ended the bee with tremendous grace by giving his big brother a hug! Congratulations to Sam Gurney for his victory and to all the participants!
