Have a safe and restful break......
I want to wish everyone a wonderful holiday season. The year seems to be rushing by as we look to build budgets, prioritize programs, analyze our practice, and look to improve our work. Spirit is high in this school. Our staff is a very talented and dedicated group. I know this because I have the great privilege of working with them every day. I see the tremendous work they do with our children. I know the increased demands that I have placed on them, and they are embracing these initiatives. This is a wonderful school, with wonderful children and parents. I am truly blessed. Happy Holidays and I hope to see you in the New Year.
In search of Wellness Committee members! The Wellness Committee will meet approximately three or four times during the remainder of the school year. The committee will be developing goals to maintain and improve wellness in our school. Members can be students, staff, parents or community members. Please contact the school nurse, Lana Schaefer, if you are interested in joining. LSchaefer@mvyps.org
UPDATE: Thank you to all who participated and supported the Class of 2014 — winners have been selected and contacted.
Raffle will benefit the Oak Bluffs School 8th Grade Trip to Philadelphia
The Class of 2014 thanks you for your support and wishes you all a happy holiday season!!!
The 2014 Youth Annual Pass is now available for purchase at the Oak Bluffs School for $30.00 which is a 40% discount offered only to Island school students . The youth pass is for students ages 7-17 (with the exception of 18 year old high school students). This pass is valid from January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2014
Passes are available at the office and must be paid by check, payable to VTA. There is a $10.00 fee for all returned checks.
The VTA is not responsible for lost or stolen passes. We suggest that students make a photocopy of the number on the back of the pass so that the VTA can disable it in their system should it be lost or stolen.
We inadvertently omitted the 6th grade report card grades for Quarter 1 Spanish and 5th grade Industrial Arts / Family and Consumer Science. Please visit the PowerSchool Parent Portal to view these grades.
Report card grades are new for our 5th grade children and our use of Power School gradebook is relatively new as well. As we work through this, I ask that you let us know if you are having difficulty accessing the parent portal or did not receive a report card for your child.
On behalf of the patients of the Quigley Memorial Hospital, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to your students at the Oak Bluffs Elementary School for their thoughtful donation of handmade Veterans Day cards.
These wonderful cards were distributed to our hospitalized veterans and they were thrilled to receive them. It is especially meaningful to them to know that children remembered them on this most special day. Please let them know much we appreciated them.
Again, thank you for your continued kindness and for your support of our veterans.

Once again our fall book fair was a smashing success! Many thanks to all who shopped and supported our school library AND our students' love of reading.
Thanks to the fortuitous timing of Mr. Brush's 5th grade science curriculum, the visually stunning and reader-friendly ELEMENTS book was our second-best seller! (Behind the new Wimpy Kid book, of course!)
Our volunteers, Melanie Marchand and Lori Koster, worked their behind-the-scenes magic yet again and we are most grateful for their time and talents.
Classroom Library Wishes were filled by the dozens thanks to the generous and infallible support of our parents.
Our All For Books Campaign raised $110 for new books for our school library and as a result Scholastic added 110 books to their annual donation to charities that support underprivileged children.
It was a great fair in every way and we look forward to our Summer Reading Fiesta Fair in the spring.
