Dear Families of the Class of 2020 (incoming 7th grade students),
We visited your child's class today to introduce ourselves and discuss their summer work for math and ELA. In ELA, students are expected to write a letter to Ms. Hopson. They also must read two books of their choice and respond to questions that they select about these books. This information was presented in a blue folder. The letter is due Sunday, August 26th. In math, students have several things to do that are detailed on google classroom. They must complete two google forms, submit three facts about Ms. Heyman's travel destinations, and complete four standards mastery checks on iready. The standards checks must be completed without assistance (except from their 6th grade math notebooks). There are a total of 30 questions on the iready checks. Students will complete all this work online. The rest of the ELA and math assignments are due on Tuesday, September 4th. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us. We look forward to working with you and your children next year! Sincerely, Eve Heyman (eheyman@mvyps.org) and Donna Hopson (dhopson@mvyps.org)
Merrick Carreiro and Jen Combra are in charge of the fireworks fundraiser on August 17th. Thank you, ladies! They will be in touch with more details. If you are willing to help them run this event, please contact them directly. You and your child should collect sponsors for the Columbus Day Road Race. This is the biggest fund raiser we do and this is the way we get the most money. Sponsorships can be dropped off at the office Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 1 pm. The deadline is September 14th. You may also earn points by working the event on Saturday, October 6th and Sunday, October 7th. (Sponsorship forms are attached to this email). The more sponsors we get, the better for the whole class. Also, we sent home T-shirts with students & parents detailing which people/businesses have sponsored in the past. It may help to wear/bring the T-shirt with you as you solicit sponsors. Please ask your child to see the T-shirt! We will also have a fund raiser on Thanksgiving morning (the Turkey Trot). Details will follow in the fall. If you are here on Thanksgiving Day, you can participate in this fund raising event. If you have any other fund raising ideas or any questions about this information, please contact us. We look forward to a successful year of fund raising for this exciting trip! Sincerely Eve Heyman & Jean Holenko 7th & 8th Grade Class Advisors Parents & Guardians of the Class of 2019 (current 7th graders),
We have already begun to plan for your child's 8th grade NYC/Philly Trip. We would like to meet with parents/guardians on Monday, June 18th at 5:30 PM in Eve Heyman's classroom. Even if you are not sure your child will participate, it is important to attend this meeting. Families begin fund raising efforts over the summer. This year's trip cost $1300 per student. Students that did all the fund raising did not pay out of pocket for the trip (they raised the full cost of the trip). The OB School will not be able to provide financial assistance. This is why we have fund raising. We hope to see you at the meeting. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Eve Heyman or Jean Holenko (your class advisors). Sincerely, Eve Heyman & Jeannie Holenko 8th grade class advisors |
