String Program Update and Instrument Return Info

String Program details:

Orchestra rehearsals are done for this school year.  We string teachers are very proud of our students!  
School lessons continue and we are in the midst of our Solo Recitals in each town.  

Johnson String Instrument will be on island to pick up instruments on June 20, Edgartown School Instrumental Room, 2:30-5:30 pm.​

8th Grade Parents - UPDATE

Dear Parents/Guardians of the 8th Grade Class,

Please be sure to read all this information carefully and get in touch if you have ANY questions or concerns.

The Philly Trip is right around the corner! We will have an informational meeting for all the students going on the Philly Trip in Eve Heyman's classroom on Thursday, June 2nd from 1:40 - 2:40 PM. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend. We will be discussing important information about expectations, packing, itinerary, and general information about our trip.  If there is ANYTHING we should know about your child being away from home for a week with us, please let us know. We want to make sure that everyone feels safe and has a great time. If you have any information you feel needs to be shared about helping us take care of your child, please don't hesitate to contact Eve or Jeannie prior to the trip. 

Sign Off Procedures:
All 8th grade students must be signed off in order to participate in graduation events. The following must be done to be signed off:
  • all textbooks and borrowed materials returned or paid for (including books from Ms. Hopson's classroom library)
  • all assignments complete in all classes
  • community service forms completed
  • all OBS library books returned or paid for
  • lunch account paid in full
  • locker empty and clean

Here are some important dates & information about the end of the year schedule:


The Math PARCC exams: Friday, May 27th, Tuesday, May 31st, and Thursday, June 2nd in the morning. Please make every effort to have your child be on time to school on these days.

Friday, June 3rd:         AM - STING event with ALL island 8th graders and high school peer leaders
        PM - Graduation rehearsal at OBS (If wearing heels, girls must bring shoes) and start of sign off procedure.

Sunday, June 5th - Friday, June 10th Philly Trip (please attend the meeting for more information).

Monday, June 13th : **Transportation provided by OB School**    8:30 AM - 8th grade breakfast, yearbook signing, sign off, graduation rehearsal (girls bring shoes) at Tabernacle.
    12:00 - 2:00(ish) PM 8th grade recognition ceremony (please make every effort to attend this lovely event that                                                 honors each 8th grader)

Tuesday, June 14th: **Transportation provided by 8th grade families.**        9AM - students meet at the Tabernacle for graduation rehearsal (usually lasts 1-1.5 hours)
        *Students may leave on their own from Tabernacle with a note from parents or students will need to be                 picked up at the end of rehearsal by parents or return to school to take the bus home at the end of                 the day.

        5:30 PM all 8th graders must meet at the rectory (next to the Tabernacle) for graduation. 
        The ceremony will start at 6:00 PM in the Tabernacle. This usually lasts about an hour or so.


Dance Party for all 6th, 7th, 8th grade students

Hello Friends - I am writing to announce our monthly Dance Party for all 6th, 7th, 8th grade kids on our island.  Alex's Place has held these dances for many years and hope you will encourage you child to come and join in the fun!  The Dance features a live DJ, great dance lighting - pool table, lots of board games to play, great snacks and more.  To celebrate Spring there will be a special door prize (gift certificate to Amazon) for one luck person.

The dance party begins at  7:00 and ends at 10 pm. All 6th, 7th, 8th graders are welcomed to attend - there's plenty of room for everyone!

Attached is a poster for the event that we hope you will share.

Thank you once again for your support as we try to provide positive community acivities for our younger kids.

Olá Amigos - Estou escrevendo para anunciar a nossa Dance Party mensal para todos os 6, 7 filhos da 8ª série na nossa ilha.
Alex Lugar realizou estas danças para muitos anos e espero que você irá incentivar seu filho a vir e participar da diversão!
A dança apresenta um DJ ao vivo, grande dança de iluminação - mesa de bilhar, lotes de jogos de tabuleiro para jogar, grandes lanches e muito mais.
Para comemorar a mola, haverá um prêmio da porta especial (certificado de presente a Amazon) para uma pessoa de sorte.

A festa de dança começa às 7:00 e termina às 10:00. Todos os 6º, 7º, 8º niveladoras são bem-vindas para participar - há abundância da sala para todos!

Em anexo é um cartaz para o evento que nós esperamos que você vai compartilhar.

Mais uma vez obrigado por seu apoio à medida que tentam fornecer acivities comunitários positivos para as nossas crianças mais jovens.
