If you want to learn to play chess correctly you first need to learn the basics. This club is designed to give an overview of all the pieces, show how they move, go over key concepts you should think about with each piece, and then show opening principles and discuss things that every chess player should know when they approach the beginning of a chess game.
Mentor students are welcome, but please inquire with Ms. Ganser directly.

Food Processors
Food Processors is an after school cooking club run by Island Grown Schools. Each meeting focuses on completing 1-2 creative, healthy recipes in the Home Economics kitchen. Members will learn food processing skills with fresh produce and practice using a variety of kitchen tools. We learn how to follow a recipe from raw ingredients to completion - all in the name of eating good whole foods and developing independence in the kitchen. We make and enjoy many creative recipes from savory to sweet, such as avocado fudge truffles, kale chips, homemade pasta, pesto sauce, smoothie bowls, vegetable sushi, pizza, tacos, pumpkin pie, energy balls and more!

Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run is a program for girls in 3rd-5th grade that encourages girls to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others. Girls gain a better understanding of who they are and what’s important to them, the value of teamwork and healthy relationships, and how they can have a positive impact on the world. Girls also make a meaningful contribution to their community through a team-organized Community Impact Project. Physical activity is woven into the program to inspire an appreciation for fitness and healthy habits, and teach life skills including treating others with care, practicing gratitude and managing emotions. This club will culminate with a Girls on the Run 5K event in Medford, MA on Saturday, June 6th. This celebratory, non-competitive event provides girls with a sense of accomplishment and instills the value of goal setting at a young age.
