What's Happening in the Library?
Our Kindergarten classes have been doing an Eric Carle author study and will be watching a video of how he does some of his beautiful collage work in his books this week. This is always a favorite.
Our First Graders have been discussing lighthouses and have read Keep the Lights Burning, Abbie. They have just begun to segue into talking about Whaling Days and will read Thirty Dirty Sailors and The Little Girl Who Went a-Whaling - A True Martha's Vineyard Tale. This is a collaboration effort with their Technology teacher, Liz McMahon, in their Technology classes.
Our Second Graders have continued with finding ways to identify a Good Fit book in the library. They have done both fiction and non-fiction "Read Arounds" to help them practice finding books that are comfortable, enjoyable, and read with a high level of accuracy, fluency and comprehension.
Our Third Graders have been learning about the Parts of a Book. Learning about titles, authors, illustrators, publishers, copyright dates and how the book is cataloged with a Call Number in the library. They are doing very well with this unit.
Our Fourth Graders talked a lot about Veterans this week and how we can honor them and acknowledge their service. We read Veterans: Heroes in our Neighborhoods this week. There has been some very good discussions happening.
Our Fifth Graders are continuing to learn more about our Online Library Catalog and how to find books and research information. This is a very valuable skill for them. Our Library Catalog can be accessed from any computer, from anywhere. Please talk to your child about logging into the Oak Bluffs School Website and utilizing the many features our Follett Destiny Program has to offer.
There is a link at the top of this page to our library catalog.
