The spring book fair is right around the corner. The excitement brews this time of year as kids who have been working on library challenges are all finishing up on their hard work and looking forward to picking out their free items at the fair. They have such a sense of pride for having been persistent all winter and working hard toward their goal. We also have their 3,4, & 5th grade reading goals surrounding us here in the library that they all created in the first weeks of school. Some are reminded of what they set out to do in the fall and are pleasantly surprised at accomplishing it, while others have been working diligently since they created it. Either way, it is exciting times.
As summer vacation approaches we hope you can continue to support these efforts at home. Having reading material around them at home to encourage reading is very important. Magazines, puzzle books, engaging picture books ... there are all kinds of fun reading that would help keep them feeling confident while on vacation. (Maybe you could help them set a summer reading goal?)
Our local library offers a wonderful reading program for kids during the summer months. They earn incentives for reading all summer! We will be introducing this to our classes in June either by taking them to the library or having the children’s librarian come in and speak to the students. Please consider signing your kids up!
Happy Spring... Hope to see you at the upcoming Scholastic Book Fair June 1 - June 6.
